MERCURY THERMOMETER EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The Worthington Fire Department is now a location where residents can drop off mercury thermometers in exchange for a free digital thermometer daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00pm, while supplies last.
Residents need to bring in a mercury-containing thermometer in order to receive the free digital thermometer.
Only one digital thermometer per household is provided.
IMPORTANT: Please bring your thermometer in the original plastic case or in two sealed Ziploc or other small plastic bags. A solid container such as a margarine tub or coffee can should be used to transport thermometers to the exchange.
This project is being sponsored cooperatively by the Worthington Fire Department, Franklin County Board of Health, Columbus Health Department, the Columbus Department of Public Utilities - Division of Sewerage and Drainage and Bowling Green State University School of Environmental Health and Safety.
Mercury, even in the smallest amounts, is hazardous, so please take this opportunity to properly dispose of mercury thermometers in your home. If you have any questions about mercury or mercury sources, or to dispose of other types of mercury in your home, please call the Franklin County Board of Health at 462-3928 or the Columbus Health Department at 645-5625.
