City of Worthington Firefighter's Community Park

Below is a copy of a brochure outlining a new project spearheaded by one of our members. You may support this project by purchasing a brick paver or donating directly (see below). View the video presentation here (16 Megs).

proposed memorial park We are the proud members of the Worthington Division of Fire and EMS. We have been serving this community since 1932, and we can proudly call Worthington and the surrounding area our home away from home. Over the years, we have witnessed numerous changes to this community and the world we live in. We have watched concerned citizens step up and help their neighbors in the time of need. We have seen frightened looks on new parents’ faces after they call 911 because their child was ‘just not acting right’. We have seen the eyes of the families desperately watching as we try to bring their loved one back from harm’s way. We have, on more than one occasion, delivered the unexpected baby and watched as a family was born in an instant. These are just a few of the things we have witnessed in our time serving your community.

During this time, we have been fortunate to work with, and learn from some of the most experienced men and women in this field. These individuals come to work, leaving their loved ones at home, so they may protect you and your family from harm with selfless service. The men and women of the Division of Fire and EMS are our extended family. We live one-third of our lives together. We call each other brothers and sisters of the fire service. We come together and laugh, cry, sleep, and play jokes on each other. We also give each other grief over the most ridiculous things. This, my friend, is what families do.

With that said, we intend to build a brand new community park upon the fire department grounds. This park will be named The City of Worthington Firefighter’s Community Park. This space will honor past, present and future firefighters of the City of Worthington, as well as those throughout this great country. The park will also serve as a gathering place for the citizens of Worthington and the surrounding areas. Upon completion, this area will include a sculpture, waterfall with reflective pool, flags to pay tribute, benches, and green spaces to enjoy. Surrounding the sculpture and the pool will also be brick walls which will memorialize fallen firefighters and pay respect to past members of Sharon Township Fire Department and the City of Worthington Division of Fire.

In order to complete this project and attaining our goal, we are asking for the citizens of Worthington and the surrounding area for their support. We would like to be able to build the park solely through charitable donations. Through these donations, we will be able to construct the park and it would give you, the citizen, a place to leave your legacy for years to come.

There are other ways that you may support our efforts charitably. These items will be classified into different categories according to the amount of the intended donation. For example, we will be selling brick pavers which can be engraved and then placed upon the walkways surrounding the center of the park. Other options are available upon request. Any donations would be appreciated and we thank you in advance for your support.

We are a 501 (C) (3) foundation, and the donations will be tax deductible. If any questions or comments, please call Firefighter/Paramedic Ted Heineman at (614) 885-7640 or through our contact page .
