April / May 2008 Hydrant Schedule
Make up Days: Weekly as Noted
Beginning on April 28th and through the month of May we will be flushing hydrants throughout the City.
These annual checks allow us make certain hydrants are working properly should
they be needed for fires or other emergency responses. This schedule is posted
on our site and some signs will be placed in neighborhoods. Notices are NO LONGER MAILED OUT ! These spring-time checks often result in rusty water in the areas being checked (see below).
These checks may take place any time during
business hours on the dates indicated. Checks are typically completed during the first part of each week. If run activity or weather prevent us from completing a street on the first scheduled date, we will return to finish
checks on one of the "make up dates" noted.
Please review the schedule below and note the 2 days (scheduled day and make up day) where your water quality may be affected ! Due to the age of many water mains in our district, it is common for rust and sediment to be stirred up during hydrant flushing. We regret this inconvenience, but are certain you understand the necessity of these checks.
On the date(s) we may be on your street or in your area avoid doing any laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. until after flushing is complete and water quality returns to normal. We also recommend you avoid drinking the tap water until it is free of sediment. You can check the water by simply running your tap and filling a glass to make certain no visible sediment, rust, or discoloration is present. Normally water quality returns to normal within a few hours after flushing. If it does not, running taps within your home may help restore water quality more quickly.
If you accidentally wash or stain laundry with rusty water, DO NOT DRY THE CLOTHING. Go to your local home supply store or grocery where you can purchase cleaning agents designed to remove such stains and re-wash the items per package directions. We do not stock rust removal agents/detergents for residents and can offer no further assistance than the information on this page.
If you are not certain whether hydrant flushing was completed on your designated day, please feel free to contact us for additional information. .
