Safe Kids Car Seat Program

Due to budget constraints Worthington Fire is no longer providing car seat inspections as of February, 2005. Please use the links below for other recommended resources !
The Worthington Fire Department is dedicated to educating our residents in the proper use and installation of Child Car Seats. We have been participating in the Central Ohio Safe Kids program for some time now. It's important for residents to understand a few things about this program . . . .

First, we do not install car seats. We will educate you on how to properly install them yourself. Because of the variables invloved, and because most parents will need to move the car seat between different vehicles at times, this process typically takes 30-45 mins. After instruction is given, we will be happy to check your installation and offer any necessary tips to improve your technique.

Also, because this is not a quick process, we do not offer car seat checks without an appointment . We currently schedule several days monthly where we have staff available to participate in this program, but you must call for an appointment first. In dire situations we will try to accomodate persons who need an immediate inspection, for instance someone needing to pick up a child who has no prior knowledge or experience with car seats.

NHTSA.dot.gov publishes proper installation procedures for child car seats.
Their information explains everything you will learn through our program. A visit to their web may meet your informational needs and save you the time compared to that required by our program.
